Short films – Flintstones


Anyone who had any contact with the Flintstones universe may have noticed that the technology is very similar to modern technology, but presented in an original way – the shower is an elephant using its trunk, the gramophone uses a bird and its beak instead of a needle, etc. Turtles are also a very popular theme, most often shown as protective helmets in the quarries where Fred and Barney works, but they also have many other uses, both as shells and whole live turtles. Below are short films in which we noticed some turtle elements:

The Flintstones: Fred’s Final Fling (Year: 1980)
The turtle appears here as a real animal, used as a violin, in the same scene turtles are used as rattles. Turtle shell is also used as an unspecified thing on the tables in the restaurant, later you can also see two frying pans that seem to be made of turtle shells.

The Flintstones’ New Neighbors (Year: 1980)
The turtle shell can only be seen as a protective helmet worn by Fred.

The Flintstones: Jogging Fever (Year: 1981)
Turtle shells appear primarily as protective helmets in many scenes. In addition, however, in one scene, running Fred passes a real, live turtle.

The Flintstone Kids’ “Just Say No” Special (Year: 1988)
The turtle shell appears only as a protective helmet.

A Flintstone Family Christmas (Year: 1993)
A real live turtle plays the role of a telephone, three turtle shells are used in a game of three cups.

Dino: Stay Out! (Year: 1995)
A turtle shell can be seen in one scene, as a sink.

Dino: The Great Egg-Scape (Year: 1997)
The turtle shell appears as a kind of bowl where a large egg is stored, and as an alarm system gong.

Why in Database: One of the many Flintstones related movies, and as with most of these, there are also a few turtle elements. The bad characters car has a turtle shell as the front. The shell also appears as a flower pot. A real turtle is used by Wilma as a jack when changing a wheel on a trailer. During the rugby game, both teams wear helmets that evoke certain associations with turtle shells, one team pink, the other green. Real turtles appear in the hotel, their job is to carry luggage. Turtle shells appears again, as a bell on the ship, as a baby carriage and as part of the drums.

What can be interpreted as a turtle shell appears as the front of the car. The turtle shell appears many times as the gong. Something that can be interpreted as a shell also appears as a bathtub. In the final fight, a real turtle appears as a gong, and Fred uses his shell as a hat/helmet.
