Why in Database: 13-episode series loosely based on the book Neverending Story – released in two forms, a thirteen-episode longer version and four one-and-a-half-hour episodes. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the original episodes at the moment, but the fact that each original episode seems to be 45 minutes long, while the longer versions are 90 minutesr long suggests that a lot had to be shortened and deleted.

The note itself is based on the 4-episode version.

The Turtle only appears in two parts, the second (The Gift) and the third (Badge of Courage).

Why in Database: A two-season series (although sometimes considered a single season, in two parts), 26 episodes in total, 13 per season. Turtles appear here in two main forms. First all, the main turtle of the entire Kung Fu Panda series, Oogway, plays a minor role. Secondly, we meet a new team of four Pandas who have received the powers of four old masters, referred to as four constellations. They come from traditional Chinese symbolism, we have a blue dragon, a red phoenix, a white tiger and a black Tortoise (shortened by us to BT). We are, of course, interested in the Tortoise! He appears in the form of flashbacks, in the form of sculptures, mentions in dialogues, of course, and we also meet him in person when action moves to the Spirit Realm. The power associated with him, which Bao wields, allows the user to create protective shields of Chi energy, which take the form of purple energy shaped in the likeness of a turtle shell.

A detailed list about turtle elements in individual episodes:

Season 01:
S01E01 – Enter the Dragon Master – BT debuts, we learn information about four constellations. Oogway also appears, summons Po to Spirit Realm and tells him to train Pandas.
S01E02 – Blue Dragon Plays with Fire – It is mentioned how Oogway got Chi, it is also told how BT saved the earth from the meteorite, by using the Chi shell shield.
S01E03 – Blade of the Red Phoenix – Po meets Oogway again! BT appears as the Statue. Bao uses protective chi shell shield.
S01E04 – The Intruder Flies a Crooked Path – BT appears in the story at the very beginning, Oogway is also mentioned in this episode.
S01E07 – Big Trouble in Panda Village – They use the Chi shell shield to slide. And there is a BT figure.
S01E08 – Secrets Lost to Shadow – Oogway is mentioned! The BT sculpture is knocked over. BT also appears as a visualization of who has whose powers in one scene.
S01E09 – Out of the Cave and Onto Thin Ice – Oogway appears in a flashback, as does BT. There is also a Chi shell shield.
S01E10 – Return of the Four Constellations – We go to the Spirit Realm, where we meet BT in person.
S01E11 – Unholy Dragon Returns to the Mountains – BT appears in the story scene at the beginning of the episode.
S01E12 – Sacrifice at the Edge of Time – We again go to the Spirit Realm, where we meet BT in person.
S01E13 – End of the Dragon Master – BT appears as a small sculpture. Oogway in the Spirit Realm is also shown.

Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness

Title: Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness
Year: 2011-2016

Viewing method: Whole series

Why in Database: Three-season series – the first two seasons have 26 episodes each, the third was released in two pieces, first 18, then 10 episodes, a total of 28 episodes, all seasons together have 80 episodes.

Turtles appear primarily in two forms in this series. The first are references to the main turtle character of the series, Master Oogway – verbal, visual, and in flashbacks. The second element is a bowl that could be seen in the training hall in the first movie – Jade Tortoise of Wisdom. It is a huge bowl in the shape of a turtle, the name is not mentioned in the film, but it could be found on the official website. This object appears in some episodes, we don’t want to repeat the name constantly, so we shortened it to JToW. The remaining mentions are minor, the following list explains in detail which episodes have turtle elements and in what form:

Season 01:
S01E01 – Scorpion’s Sting – JToW appears. A flashback shows Oogway defeating Scorpion.
S01E03 – Sticky Situation – JToW appears, it is also used as part of a mech made by the opponent. Oogway only in flashback, doesn’t say anything.
S01E04 – Chain Reaction – Oogway’s image is on the column that Po and Tigress are transporting!
S01E05 – Fluttering Finger Mindslip – Oogway appears as a drawing on a scroll. JToW appears, but it is poorly visible.
S01E09 – Owl Be Back – In a flashback, Oogway is shown defeating the owl.
S01E11 – Sight for Sore Eyes – Oogway mentioned and shown on the papyrus picture that Po shows.
S01E12 – Rhino’s Revenge – Po talks about Wise old turtle, not by name, but of course it’s about Oogway.
S01E13 – Master Ping – Po’s father uses JToW as a cooking pot! It’s also the first time the name is mentioned “in the animation”, so if someone hasn’t had the opportunity to visit the official website, they got to know it for the first in this episode (and only time, it’s never mentioned by name again).
S01E14 – Ghost of Oogway – The title is Ghost of Oogway, so of course he appears as a ghost! Except that for most of the episode it’s not him at all, it’s one of the heroes’ opponents, Junjie, who impersonates Oogway. Then Shifu performs the same trick, and in the finale, what we only see as viewers, characters can’ see this, the real Oogway appears as a ghost. He also appears earlier, in flashbacks.
S01E15 – The Kung Fu Kid – JToW appears.
S01E16 – Ladies of the Shade – Oogway is mentioned, “nine headed black tortoise!” is also mentioned!
S01E17 – Big Bro Po – JToW appears, only faintly visible in the background.
S01E22 – Has-Been Hero – Iron Turtle Shells appears, their role is to limit the abilities of the warrior wearing them.
S01E23 – Love Stings – JToW appears, but is blurred because of movement.
S01E25 – Father Crime – In the flashback there is Oogway’s shadow and hand.

Season 02:
S02E01 – Kung Fu Day Care – JToW appears, in the background.
S02E05 – Kung Shoes – JToW appears.
S02E07 – Enter the Dragon Part 1 – At the beginning there is a story about how Oogway cleansed the Valley of Peace.
S02E08 – Enter the Dragon Part 2 – There are mentions of Oogway.
S02E10 – Present Tense – There is Oogway in the picture of a license to practice Kung Fu. And there is another turtle, as a visualization of what Po is saying! JToW appears.
S02E13 – The Spirit Orbs of Master Ding – Oogway seen in Flashback.
S02E14 – The Maltese Mantis – Oogway fans appears, cosplaying him.
S02E19 – Crane on a Wire – JToW appears, very shortly.

Season 03:
S03E01 – Shifu’s Ex – JToW appears, faintly visible in the background.
S03E04 – Mind Over Manners – One of the character says “I Like Turtles”!
S03E07 – Mouth Off – Oogway appears in a flashback and on the scroll that Mantis is sleeping on. JToW appears.
S03E09 – The Goosefather – JToW appears, not very clearly visible.
