Kiawe’s Turtonator

Turtonator is a turtle Pokemon that debuted with the seventh generation and the Alola region. Kiawe is one of the main characters in the Sun & Moon series. The main character, Ash does not wander the world like in the previous series, but goes to the Poke-School in the Alola region, where other characters attend, so the whole group can be called the main heroes. Kiawe is the type of trainer interested in fire, when we meet him in the first episode, we first see his Charizard, not much later he uses his Turtonator in the fight. So far, the series (and movies) has not shown any other Turtonator than the one trained by Kiawe.

This turtonator has appeared in a huge number of episodes, perhaps even more than Ash’s Squirtle! A lot of these appearances are more or less “being in the background”, but there are also episodes in which he has a greater role. Below, the list of episodes in which it appeared, more important appearances are accompanied by an additional comment (the first number is the overall number of the episode, counting from the beginning, according to numbering on Bulbapedia. Laki

Laki is an unusual case of collective note about turtles from the world of Pokemon. He is not a Pokemon, nor does he train any turtle Pokémon – the only thing he has in common with them is the shirt he wears that clearly refers to Turtonator.

In person, or on a TV screen (because he is a TV star), he appears in the following episodes (the first number is the overall number of the episode, the one preceded by the SM prefix is the number within the Sun & Moon series):
956 – SM017 – Crystal-Clear Sleuthing!
959 – SM020 – Partner Promises!

987 – SM048 – Night of a Thousand Poses!

At the end of the movie, Wartortle also appears, helping in the fight against fire.

Why in Database: Twentieth animated movie from the Pokemon universe, the first in a new slightly restart timeline (previous Pokemon/Movies followed the events of from the main Anime series, here we havae Ash’s “new” incarnation and this film loosely adapts some of the themes from the opening anime episodes). There is no shortage of turtle pokemon here, at the very beginning a fight in which Blastoise takes part is shown. In the scenes taking place in Ash’s room, we see a poster with Kanto starters, including Squirtle (later, in the dream-sequence, this poster is replaced with a poster with three cars in the Kanto starters colors). In the scene-memory of professor Oak, Squirtle and the trainer choosing him are shown, then you can also see a “stand” styled for each starter, and Oak himself also has a Squirtle flower watering machine. Squirtle, Wartortle, and Torterra have also small “in-person” appearances during random scenes.
