Why in Database: Twentieth animated movie from the Pokemon universe, the first in a new slightly restart timeline (previous Pokemon/Movies followed the events of from the main Anime series, here we havae Ash’s “new” incarnation and this film loosely adapts some of the themes from the opening anime episodes). There is no shortage of turtle pokemon here, at the very beginning a fight in which Blastoise takes part is shown. In the scenes taking place in Ash’s room, we see a poster with Kanto starters, including Squirtle (later, in the dream-sequence, this poster is replaced with a poster with three cars in the Kanto starters colors). In the scene-memory of professor Oak, Squirtle and the trainer choosing him are shown, then you can also see a “stand” styled for each starter, and Oak himself also has a Squirtle flower watering machine. Squirtle, Wartortle, and Torterra have also small “in-person” appearances during random scenes.
