Why in Database: The issue of sea turtles is a recurring “meme” in the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. When Gibbs describes how Jack Sparrow got out of the island where he was abandoned, he repeats what Jack himself told, that he caught a pair of sea turtles and tied them up, making a raft (later in the film it turns out that the truth was a little different). It is also worth mentioning that Tortuga plays an important role in the film – and name of that island in Spanish means “Turtle”.
Gibbs – He waded out into the shallows, and he waited there three days and three nights, till all manner of sea creatures came acclimated to his presence. And on the fourth morning, he roped a couple of sea turtles, lashed them together and made a raft.
