Kappa

Kappa is a creature derived from Japanese folklore, a demon who is often described as having turtle features – mostly very turtle-like shell.

We have quite a few notes in TD where Kappa is mentioned.

In movies, we have Death Kappa all about Kappa, and Making Fun: The Story of Funko featuring a Funko POP figure depicting Kappa. This demon can also be seen in the 1939 short, Oyoge ya Oyoge.

Kappa related elements are in two anime series that we have in TD: in Ai-Mai-Mi Kappa appears, while in Shirokuma Cafe (Polar Bear’s Cafe) there are only mentions of her.

In the sculpture notes we have described two cities that have sculptures of Kappa – in the Japanese city of Toyohashi there are as many as four sculptures (in different places), and in the American city of Kansas City is another sculpture depicting Kappa.

We have a separate paragraph for the appearances of kappa in the Harry Potter universe – it was mentioned in two books, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (although it does not appear in the film adaptations of these books). In movies, in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them it is only in the form of a recollection in the newspaper’s headline, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Kappa apears “in person”. In the HP documentary, Harry Potter: A History of Magic Kappa can be seen in one of the pictures in the book that is being shown at one point.

In our music database, we have two songs with some references to Kappa:
NecromantiaCircle of Burned Doves
WhisperedKappa

In the section Short films – Live action we have one position (“Gacha Gacha”) where you can see a figure of Kappa.
